  ＜Adam J Short特派員＞多すぎるソフトセルの過去のグレイテスト・ビッツの後、ついに長く待ち焦がれていたアルバムが出ました。このリリースのタイミングは現在のエレクトロクラッシュのトレンドにフィットするように仕組まれたものに違いない。最初の5つの曲（シングル「Monoculture」を含む）は新鮮な驚きでした。典型的なアーモンドの歌詞とキャッチーなヴォーカルのリフ、そしてボールズのちょっとハードでダンサブルなベースラインは、1980年の「Memorabilia」のシンプルなアナログ・エレクトロ・ディスコを連想させる。モダンなシンセ・ボックスで露骨にプログラミングされたものであるが、アルバムの前半の部分はソフトセルが常にエレクトロニックに達成しようとしたシンプルでアナログなダンサブルなエレクトロニック・ミュージックです。アルバムの後半の部分は21世紀のエッジには至らないが、エレポップのパイオニアとして典型的なものとなっている。メロディー的には後半部はペット・ショップ・ボーイズ的平均的中庸ポップです。幸運なことにマークのシニカルな歌詞は注意を喚起するが、今の時代では月並みな仕事と思え、バンドは曲の音楽的内容はリスナーの注意を長く保てない事を知っているかもしれない。
  <Correspondet Adam J Short> After too many Soft Cell retrospective greatest hits, at last we have the long awaited album. I am sure the timing of release is deliberate, so as to fit in with the current"Electroclash" trend. the first five track(including the single Monoculture) are a refreshing surprise. Typical Almond lyrics and catchy vocal riffs, with Balls slightly hard and danceable basslines, reminiscent of 1980's Memorabilia simplistic analogue electro disco. Although blatantly programmed on modern synth boxes, the first part of the album is what Soft Cell have always tried to electronically achieve, simple, danceable electronic music. The second part of the album fall into what is so typical of what were electropop pioneers not quite getting the edge during the 21st century. Melodicaly the latter part of the album turns into what I concsider to be Pet Shop Boys mediocre middle of the road pop. Fortunately Marc's synical lyrics hold your attention, but this seems to be a common ploy in this day and age where a band may know that the musical content of a song may not hold the listeners attention for too long.

  ＜サトル特派員＞Dave BallがSoft CellとThe Gridの間に組んだユニット。エンジニアにはErasure等との仕事でも有名なFloodも参加。ヴォーカル以外ほとんど Soft Cellですが、よりダンサブルです。
  <Correspondent Satoru> A unit formed by Dave Ball between Soft Cell and The Grid. Flood participated in this as an engineer known for Erasure' s works. It's almost Soft Cell except vocal, but more dancable.

Soft CellはSome BizzareのStevoに発掘され、翌年英国のベスト・セラーとなった『テインテッド・ラヴ』でその名を馳せることとなる。ファースト・アルバムのタイトル通りMarcのヴォーカルはとてもとてもけだるくキャバレー的である。Soft Cell解散後、Marcは最終的にソロとなり、Daveは短いソロ活動の後、English Boy On The Love Ranchを経てGridを結成する。

Soft Cell brought to the attention of Some Bizzare's Stevo and in the following year they became known with the British best selling single of the year "Tainted Love". Marc's vocal is very very sleazy like a cabaret as their first album title. After Soft Cell was disbanded, Marc eventually became a solo and Dave formed the Grid after a short period of solo activity through English Boy On The Love Ranch.
